Greshornish House is a four-star family-run country house, currently trading as VisitScotland "guest accommodation", set in a stunning but isolated location on a sea loch at the north-west end of the Isle of Skye. The house has a maximum of eight letting bedrooms, all en-suite, and provides exceptional standards of comfort, cuisine and service. The dining room serves consistently delicious food featuring quality local produce and has been the recipient of several awards.

Greshornish House has various positions available throughout the season, which commences in March and runs through until November each year.

The job specifications below give a general overview of the seasonal positions that we offer, but do not necessarily reflect actual vacancies.

Receptionist
Required to assist the owners. Duties will include checking guests in and out, handling mail, producing guest bills, posting charges, reconciling the day's business, taking bookings and sending confirmations. You will be required to assist guests with enquiries or problems on a daily basis.

Criteria: Ideally candidates would be 21+, hardworking, able to work well independently as well as part of a team. They must have a polite manner and smart appearance, be enthusiastic, flexible, excellent communicators with good customer awareness. Previous experience is desirable as is a recognised reception/administrative qualification.

Kitchen: Head Chef, Assistant Chef and Kitchen Porter
Criteria – Applicants for Chef vacancies must have some formal training either at college or through work placements and experience in all areas of food preparation. Must be hard-working and enthusiastic about food, self-motivated, flexible and able to maintain high standards in busy conditions. For all positions the applicant must be aged 18+, have ability to work as part of a busy team as well as independently, have excellent time-keeping and hold a basic food and hygiene certificate. Relevant kitchen experience required, i.e. 12 months to 3 years in high quality establishments and depending on position, hold either S/NVQ1 & 2 or City and Guilds qualifications.

Waiting/Bar Staff
To work as part of a team in the Dining Room/Bar serving drinks, breakfast, morning coffee, lunches, afternoon teas and dinner.

Criteria – All applicants must have suitable experience within a quality establishment, be aged 18+, be flexible, hard working, enthusiastic and willing to maintain high standards at all times. Excellent communication skills and customer awareness is a necessity. Knowledge of wines and bar experience will be required. Candidates for the supervisory roles must have strong restaurant/beverage backgrounds with first-rate organisational skills, be effective communicators and able to work under pressure.

Housekeepers
Required to assist in the cleaning of guest rooms and general areas of the house. Also likely to assist in the service of breakfast and/or afternoon tea and tray service in the evening, and in the laundry as required.

Porter/General Assistant
Required to carry guests’ luggage, sweep entrance, clean windows, assist housekeeping with moving beds, linen etc. Some general maintenance duties will be required and room service. You may also be asked to undertake other duties as deemed necessary.

(This position could be combined with the kitchen porter’s and could also involve some gardening duties/mowing).

Criteria – All applicants must be hardworking, flexible, enthusiastic and willing.

Accommodation
Accommodation is available for all our staff unless local accommodation is preferred. For seasonal staff this consists of a room (single or double as appropriate) with shared facilities.

Bedrooms contain bed, wardrobe, drawers, TV, kettle, duvet, pillows and laundered bed linen and towels. Shared facilities include communal laundry services, shower rooms and access to internet.

Further details are available on request. The weekly deduction for accommodation is currently £35 per person.

Meals are provided for staff on duty. Cooking facilities are provided for off-duty staff.
